About me....

My name is Christopher Heald. I am an artist painter based in Edinburgh.

I was born in Berkshire, UK in 1974. I studied Fine Art for six years before beginning to paint consistently in 2008.

My love for painting is driven by how I see nature and the colours it produces. The joy of being in nature, is being able to feel the elements, the sense of space and scale, and the beautiful colours that become apparent the more I look. I'm interested in ways of representing the light, atmosphere and colours that give a landscape life.

Colour is a big factor in my work, in fact it often dictates why I choose a motif to paint. I love the challenge of showing the colours of a time of day, the beauty of a moment. Being a painter of Nature does naturally give you an interest in how the colours you are seeing are created.

I paint with a little palette knife and a couple of fine brushes I use for finer detail. I paint quickly, and I prefer not to mix my paint with any medium, I like the beautiful pure colour that I've mixed.

I love to travel to the South of France and Italy on painting trips discovering new motifs. I love the challenge of different light effects and showing the colours that are produced.

Painting for me is a life journey. The progression is very important to me.

Without the Natural World, I wouldn't be an artist, it is my whole inspiration to paint. Painting the Natural World has made me aware of what is needed to protect these habitats and in particular trees which play a vital role in stabilizing this planet we share.

"It seems to me that the Natural World is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living." - David Attenborough.

I've exhibited in the U.K. and France, and have works in private collections in the U.K., Europe, Hong Kong, Canada and the US.

Thank you so much for your support. Please message me with any enquiries or just to say hello.
